FOOD CARTOONS
published in Gastronomica
By the teens of the 21st century (this one), I added color to my drawings when the Editor of Gastronomica invited me to do the back page of this respected journal of food and culture, published at U.C.Berkeley and written by scholars and journalists.
Scroll through these, noting two groupings.
The group called Basic Food Groups was a four-page spread for an issue featuring current debates about the best kinds of diet to follow, so I illustrated four theories of eating: American Industrial, Vegan Ayurvedic, Raw, and Paleo—each with its “batterie de cuisine” in the middle and its Enabling Assumption at the bottom.
Weekend Yoga Retreat was a double spread, the first page showing what you see, the second, the secret thoughts of yogis thinking about lunch.
