Scholarly Work

I’m a cultural anthropologist

My professional life has long been intertwined with images, ones I took with a camera and ones I drew, not to mention sights I saw and photographed during fieldwork in Papua-New Guinea, Indonesia, and Mexico. The final phase of my professional career of academic writing focused on Visual Culture and art, both non-Western and Western, and I made a documentary about Mexican artisans of Michoacán. I continue to write essays and commentary, including visual diaries.
