ORNAMENTAL kNOWLEDGE

In the late 18th century, Knowledge could be “practical” (used for solving a problem) or “ornamental” (everything else –Art! Music! Cartoons!). Here you’ll find a few of my contributions to Ornamental Knowledge.

From the time I was a wee child, I made little drawings and doodled in class. The practice of processing experience through drawing amusing lines continued throughout graduate school and my career, as I illustrated thoughts of Great Thinkers, made deep ideas visible in pictures, and created ironic visual commentary, all in B&W.

In years of late, my amusing lines usually include color and are more whimsical and less abstract, resulting in food cartoons for a respected journal, in posters and booklets, and in a children’s picture book made in pen & ink and watercolor.
